GREAT COLUMBIA CROSSING 2008: RULES & COURSE INFO
COURSE – 10K/6.2 miles interstate road walk/run over the 4.2 mile-long Astoria-Megler Bridge crossing the Columbia River near its mouth.
Starts in SW Washington at Dismal Nitch rest area and ends at the Port of Astoria. The course is mostly flat, with a challenging incline on the bridge rising 200 ft. over the ship channel.
PARKING – two locations: • Port of Astoria, Astoria OR (follow signs to the GCX reserved parking area) • Port of Chinook, Chinook WA (turn off Water or Olympia Sts. and follow signs for GCX parking.)
SHUTTLE BUSES – Please indicate below where you plan to park for our shuttle planning purposes.
• Astoria, OR – Port of Astoria near the Office at 422 Gateway Departs 7:00 am and every 20 mins. Last bus 8:00 am sharp!
• Chinook, WA – Olympia St (across from Port of Chinook) Departs at 7:30 am.
Please show your bib number upon boarding bus – only participants with numbers will be allowed on the course (children under 8 accompanied by an adult do not need bib numbers). Please remember for safety measures, only collapsible strollers allowed.
BRIDGE USE – Only registered event participants may be on the bridge, and only from 9-11 am. Those unable to finish within the 2-hour time limit will be picked up by a bus. Since one lane remains open to traffic on the bridge during the race, for safety reasons all participants MUST REMAIN in the race lane! CITATIONS will be issued for those crossing into traffic lane. Children under 8 years of age must be with an adult at all times during the event. Sorry, no dogs or pets of any kind are allowed, with the exception of pre-registered, certified guide dogs.

• Come in to the Chamber and register in person through Friday afternoon. Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber, 111. W. Marine Dr., Astoria.
• Saturday, October 11, Astoria High School, 1001 West Marine Drive, Noon to 7 pm
• Sunday, October 12, 6:00 – 7:30 am, late registration at the Port of Astoria Office, 422 Gateway Ave, Astoria
PACKET PICK UP (Bib #, Chowder Feed Ticket, T-shirt when applicable)
NOW thru Friday, October 10th Daily, 9 am – 5 pm. Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber, 111. W. Marine Dr., Astoria
Saturday, October 11th at Astoria High School, 1001 West Marine Dr., Astoria from Noon until 7 pm
Sunday, October 12th Late registration & bib pick-up prior to race at the Port of Astoria, from 6-7:30 am
Sunday, October 12th after the race, T-shirts will be available for sale and pick up at Astoria High School
T-shirts can be mailed after the event, for S&H fees starting at $5, depending on quantity.
ENTRY FEE & T-SHIRT: Fees include parking, shuttle bus service to start of race & car park, a clam chowder lunch • $30 per entry • $15 per entry for 18 and under, any time. • $15 per t-shirt, all sizes, any time, while supplies last. We only order a certain number of t-shirts so this offer good while supplies last.

RACE RESULTS & AWARDS – A limited Awards Ceremony will be at the chowder feed and presentations will be made to the overall male & female finishers. The chowder feed will take place at Astoria High School-free to participants and volunteers. All others charged $3.
SHOWERS – The High School locker room will be available for showers after the race. Please bring your own towel.

Time: The race 9 a.m. (Shuttles to starting line leave earlier from both Astoria, Oregon and Chinook, WA.)
Where: From the race registration station in Astoria, walkers and runners can catch the shuttle bus to the starting line.
Registration: Adults 19 years old and over $25 before Oct. 1 and $30 after.
Children 8 to 18 years old $15.
Entry fees include shuttle bus service, parking, and a clam chowder lunch.
Long Sleeve T-shirts can be purchased for an additional $15.

Traffic Impact: We appreciate the community’s support of this event and try to minimize the impact on traffic as best we can. The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic for about 30 minutes at 9am to get all the race participants onto the bridge. Cars are guided alternately in each direction until 11am, when any race participants remaining on the bridge are picked up and the bridge is opened back up to 2-way traffic.
